Phone call to Callisto

Angel was in his room at the Hyperion.

He really, really wished some sort of demon would burst through the door and demand that he fight him.

When the universe failed to produce that sort of welcome distraction, he hit the speed dial number for Callisto instead.

Angel blinked in surprise. "How'd you know it was me?"

Callisto frowned, mostly because that lingering yet inexplicable sense of terrible, unspeakable dread was back. "I have caller id."

"Oh," Angel said. "That makes sense."

Long pause.

"Hi-sorry-for-not-calling-how-are-you?"

Yes, he was reading this off his hand.

Callisto's left eyebrow started inching it's way up off her face."I don't know, okay, I guess. So when did you get turned into a robot?"

Angel frowned. "Huh?"

"You sounded like a robot just then. Is everything all right?"

"Yeah! Sure! Fine!" Angel gave a nervous laugh. "Totally a-okay. Not - uh - not in a perfect way, obviously."

Well, he sounded nervous about something. Callisto immediately leapt to the wrong conclusion about what. "Did you sleep with Logan?"

"No!" Angel said. Or possibly yiped. "Wait - how are we defining 'slept with'? Because when we got here we were sort of sharing this split hotel room deal so in a broad sense maybe that counts."

"Funny how you forgot to mention that earlier." Callisto may have sounded the slightest bit sulky.

"Separate rooms!" Angel said, with the same tone he usually reserved for 'separate floors.' "No bed sharing! Didn't even share a bathroom! Which is just as well 'cause man he leaves a mess."

"And you know about Logan's bathing habits how?" There was definite pouting on Callisto's end now.

"Because we shared that double room thing?" Angel reminded her.

"But you just said you didn't share a bathroom!"

"I've got eyes!" Angel said. "What, was I not supposed to look in his bathroom when I passed by?"

"Do you really want me to answer that?"

Angel facepalmed. "Okay, okay. Fine. Separate floors now anyway."

"Good," Callisto said. Not that she hadn't stopped pouting.

"Okay." Angel cleared his throat. "Um. So. You talked to Veronica or Aeryn lately?"

"Just Aeryn," Callisto scowled. "I don't think she's taking my class seriously. She wore high heels yesterday."

Angel was momentarily lost on that mental image.

Not that Callisto noticed. "And then last week she wouldn't take off her clothes with the rest of the class."

Okay that one pulled him up short. "You're making your class strip?"

"Only twice," Callisto protested. "And considering they would have gotten ruined if they'd worn them this week, I feel I'm completely justified in doing so."
