"Overtime," Dan mumbled to himself. "Lots and lots of overtime." More then twenty-four hours of it at this point. Whoever had hijacked the system was good. Very good even. It took half a dozen different versions of anti-virus software, three different security patch updates, and just because it couldn't hurt, an offering of coffee to the gnome statue that stood guard over the servers, but he finally felt like he had a handle on the problem.
"You're good," he told the computer. "But I'm better."
There was still a lot of work to do. Files were still half corrupted. They weren't sure exactly where some of the portals went. There was only a partial list of people that had been portaled. But it gave them somewhere to start.
Dan looked up from the computer, glared briefly at Jaye, then turned his attention to the supervisor who was waiting impatiently for an answer.
"This terminal's fixed. You can start bringing people home now. It'll be slow while we clear out those dummy files but it's a start."
[Return portals are now being sent out. Everyone should receive theirs and be back where they belong by early Saturday morning at the latest.]
