Veronica had finally met her roommate and while she was no Chloe or Piper, it seemed like they'd get along okay.

She'd had her first college class that day and it had gone well. She was sprawled out on her bed, checking over the required reading list for the class.

After his ice cream run with Molly, Cameron had trouble not thinking about his conversation with John (http://cameronmitchell.livejournal.com/78837.html?thread=2968821#t2968821). He managed to stare at his notes from the previous two days without taking much in, but at least he was pretending to do something. He actually managed to pretend for quite some time, but as it grew later it just became harder. Finally giving in, he picked up the telephone and dialed a certain number. If he got the voicemail, he was not leaving a message this time. Apparently he sucked at them.

Veronica checked her caller ID before answering and was mildly surprised by the number that popped up.

"Hey," she answered, putting aside her syllabus.

"Yo," he replied. "How are you doing?" he asked.

"Not too bad. Classes started today. My roommate is pretty cool. How's everything going with you?"

"I don't think you should have left," he deadpanned.

"I kind of didn't have a choice," Veronica said.

"I know," he sighed and rubbed at an imaginary spot on his jeans. "You left and everyone started having a crappy week and maybe if you come back it will get better again."

There was a definite pause before she replied to that. "So me leaving made everyone have a bad week?"

"No, but it didn't help the cheerfulness," he pointed out, wondering why he was saying this.

Being a detective meant that Veronica heard what he wasn't saying. "I miss you, too, you know."

He went quiet for a moment. "I fixed my swoopbike," he finally said, remembering what they'd said about that.

Veronica smiled. "Cool. Have you tested it out yet?"

"Just in Danger Shop," he replied. "I just painted her today so when the weather clears up, I'll probably be taking her for a spin."

"I can't wait to go for a ride next time I'm back in Fandom," she said.

"I'm keeping you to that," he told her.

"You wouldn't be able to keep me away."

"Good," he said before going quiet.

Veronica waited a minute to see if he was going to continue.

When he didn't, she finally sighed. "Cam, what's going on?"

He sighed. "I'm not sure how to say this over the telephone."

"That sounds ominous. Just say it."

"There's a new kid," Cameron started. "Apparently he's Anakin's son and... Anakin and most of the Jedi got murdered."

Veronica blinked. Of all the things Cameron could have told her, that was about the last one she expected.

"Wow."

"Yeah," he agreed softly.

There were about a thousand questions running through Veronica's mind. But the first one that popped out was, "Who's his mother?"

"Uh..." Cameron blinked as he hadn't expected that question. Hadn't asked it either. "I don't know."
