Phone call to Piper

So homecoming back in Fandom was coming up. Lindsey had his plane ticket back east all set, he had a new suit, so he was all set to go. Except for the small matter of the dance and needing a date. Luckily he had someone in mind. Unfortunately, minifridges do not dance well. So he picked up the phone to call Piper.

"Hey Lindsey," Piper greeted after glancing at the caller ID.

"Hey Piper. So I know this guy," Lindsey said. "And he needs a date for Homecoming. You know anybody who's free next weekend?"

"Yeah, I know someone who might be available," Piper replied.

"Yeah? That's good. He's a good guy. Pretty cute too, or so I hear. And he promises lots of dancing and even dinner."

"I'm pretty sure this girl I know would gladly accept."

"My friend will be very glad to hear that. Very, very glad," Lindsey said seriously.

"It's good that your friend and mine have dates," Piper said. "So, do you have one?"

"Well, there's this girl I know...but she may have just agreed to go with some other guy. How 'bout you? Got a date?"

"There might have been a few offers, but I haven't made a decision yet," Piper said, snickering.

"Oh? Anybody I know?" Lindsey asked. This was entertaining.

"You might know one of them pretty well," Piper said, amused.

"Oh really? You gonna go with this guy I know then?"

"I was hoping too."

"Bet he's hoping to go with you, too. Probably just sitting by his phone waiting for you to call him up and tell him he's a lucky guy. Maybe I should let you go, so you can call him."

"Well, if I did that then I couldn't tell you you're the lucky guy," Piper said, now more serious.

Lindsey had barely been able to keep a straight face through the conversation. Of course, it was all over the phone so he didn't need to keep a straight face, but he'd tried anyway. Now he was just grinning.

"I am a very lucky guy," Lindsey agreed. "Very very lucky."

"I'm glad you agree," Piper said, also grinning. "I wish it was next Friday already."

"I can't wait," Lindsey said. "I miss you."

"Just sorry I can't have you all to myself next weekend," Lindsey said. "But I guess I can share you for a while at the dance. So how's life in San Francisco lately?"

"Things have been kind of...crazy lately," Piper replied.

"You wanna talk about it? Or is it the kind of crazy you'd rather not be thinking about?"

"I guess I don't have to think about it for now," Piper said. "I'll tell you about it next week?"

"Okay. But I'm around, you can call if you wanna talk later. Should I let you go now then?"

"Yeah, it's getting kinda late," Piper said. "I'll see you next week then?"
