As soon as Bridge sees the number on the call ID, he picks it up.

"Cal?" he says hopefully.

Mouth suddenly dry, Callisto licked her lips before speaking. "Hey."

And Bridge is grinning the kind of grin where you can *tell* that he's doing so just by the tone of his voice. "It's good to hear from you."

Callisto let a breath she didn't even know she was holding. "Yeah, it is."

"How's California?" Bridge asks. Because it's slightly less lame then "how are you?"

Callisto shrugged. "The same as any other place, I guess."

"Have you left the apartment at all? Gone out and done stuff?"

"Once or twice," Callisto replied.

From:

"That's *all*?" Bridge says. "Cal, I'm worried about you."

From:

"I haven't felt like going out," Callisto said softly, then frowned. "And I'm not the one running off to the underworld and being attacked by space cannibals."

"The space cannibals weren't in the underworld," Bridge points out somewhat sulkily.

From:

"That doesn't really make be feel better."

From:

"I didn't actually fight any demons or anything in the underworld at all?" Bridge offers, trying to sound innocent.

Callisto's silence spoke volumes.

"Are you still there?"

"Yeah."

From:

"Did I do something wrong?" Bridge asks worriedly.

Callisto sighed. "Bridge," she forced the words out. "I've had everything taken from me, if something happened to you too..."

"I can't just do nothing!" Bridge says. "I need... I *need* to help people. Even if it's dangerous."

"But I don't want to lose you too."

From:

"I don't want to lose *you* either, you know," Bridge says.

"I know," Callisto replied, softly.

From:

"I can promise that I'll never *seek out* trouble," Bridge says. He can't help it if trouble just seems to find him.

It wasn't enough, not really, but "Okay."

From:

"Doesn't sound like that's okay," Bridge frowns.

From:

"I don't want you near trouble at all," Callisto said, her tone suggesting she knew that wasn't possible short of tying him up and sitting on him.

"And I love you for that. But sometimes trouble *finds* me," Bridge points out. "And I can't avoid it."

"Doesn't mean I have to be happy about it."

From:

"Just like I'm not gonna be when *you're* in trouble."

After Krycek got Cal's number from Bridge, he headed back to his room. Closing the door, he hit dial on his cell phone and waited.

Callisto frowned in surprise as her phone started ringing again. "Cal."

"Krycek," he said, relieved. He paused a moment, suddenly not sure what to say. "Sorry I haven't called earlier."

"Hey, Kry," Callisto said.

"How are you doing?" He was honestly curious, though small talk was hard to think about at the moment.

"I wish I was dead, and the only reason I'm not is because it would upset Bridge," Callisto replied. "How about you?"

"Broke up with Jake and D'anna's dying," he said almost blithely. Krycek swallowed past a sudden tightness in his throat, closing his eyes. "Come back?"

"Boyfriends suck," Callisto said. "What do you need me to do?"
