Rory was stuck studying for the evening, but she knew there was something she needed to do. There was time for a coffee break.

Which was why she ducked out of her dorm, hitting speed dial on her way to the coffee cart.

"If this call is telling me that you and Anakin broke up again, I'm hanging up," Sam said after checking the caller ID.

"So you heard," Rory said, sounding amused. "No, we're still together. Hi!"

"Anakin's not fantastic at hiding it when he's happy," Sam grinned into the phone, "So congratulations, and hi! What's up?"

"So I need your help," Rory said, adopting her best wheedling tone.

"Mine? Really?" Sam couldn't imagine what this was going to involve. Hopefully no bombs. "What for?"

"Aeryn's bachelorette party is next week and I have no idea what we should do," Rory told her, signaling to the barista, who knew her way too well.

"No strippers," Sam said immediately, hoping Aeryn appreciated it.

"Hi, this is Rory you're talking to," she reminded her. "I don't think I can hire a stripper. I think I'd spontaneously combust."

Laughing, Sam leaned against her counter. "Right, sorry. Though I'd love to see the look on Anakin's face when you told him. Hmmm. The thing that immediately comes to mind is paintball. Or maybe skydiving?"

"...or both!" Rory said thoughtfully. "Though I think more people would be into paintball."

"Yeah, probably," she admitted reluctantly. It had been years since she'd jumped out of an airplane. "Or we could come up with something more peaceful, but...Aeryn."

"I'm pretty sure that tea in the garden while we open gifts isn't something she'd be into," Rory mused. "And we're not old enough to legally drink out of Fandom."

"What else is there to do in Boston? I've never been."

"...there are those swan boats."

Sam had a momentary mental picture of Aeryn in a swan boat. "Uh..."

"I don't know what else there is," Rory said woefully. "But the picture of Aeryn in one of those boats is awesome."

"You do know the objective is for us to be alive to see them get married, right, and not to be killed by the bride?" Sam teased.

"We could tell her it's tradition?" she wheedled.

Sam gave the phone a Look, not that it was particularly effective that way. "Is there some kind of weapons or military show we could go see, maybe?"

"I'll look into it," Rory promised. She privately thought they should start off at the swan boats anyway.

"How's everything else going? Do you need me to do anything else? Food, drink?" Not that she'd cook it...

"I think we're set," Rory said, sipping her coffee. "I just don't want it to be the lamest party ever or anything."

"I don't think it could be lame if we tried," Sam grinned, then tried to make Rory feel better, "Besides, it's not like Aeryn's got a lot to compare it to."

"Fair point," Rory agreed, making her way back too her room.

Besides, she realized, no one should be drinking if Aeryn couldn't, but she didn't voice that particular thought. "Paintballing is definitely good, though. Maybe we can find some explosives."

Sam coughed. "Rigged with paint, right? To make it more of a war game situation?"

"I was thinking fireworks, but sure," Rory replied.

"I could probably handle some fireworks, but I don't know how I'll get them to Massachusetts."

"I could probably get something interesting," Rory said, smiling slowly. "I know this guy who makes stuff."

Grinning again, Sam said, "Is he any good? I could always use a good fabricator."

"He's the best," Rory said. Dorkily. Really, really dorkily.

Sam laughed. Seriously, it was about time. "How are classes going?"

"Good," she said cheerfully, bumping the door to her room open with her hip. "They're so great here. And the libraries...." She gave a happy sigh. "How's everything with you?"

A bit boring and unfulfilling, actually, not that Sam was going to admit that. "Fine. Quieter than I'm used to, after Fandom and the dorms. Many fewer explosions, which I guess is a good thing."

"You should blow something up if you're bored," Rory suggested. "We had guys lighting firecrackers in the hallway the other day."

"...was one of them Anakin?"

"No, they were the guys from the floor up," she replied. "One of them ended up naked outside my suite the first week. Yale's fun."

"Yes, that definitely sounds more entertaining than the Air Force Academy. We had much less nudity and more demerits."

"I mean, it's a serious school," she added. "It's Yale, not like...Florida State."
