NYC circa 1998: Friday Morning Fandom Time

Marty was sure of several things:

1. He never owned a pair of Bermuda shorts.
2. He has never worn a pair of Berumuda shorts.
3. That his closet was now filled with Bermuda shorts.

"Angela? Are all my pants in the laundry?"

"Is it my turn to do laundry again?" Angela asked, padding into the bedroom. "Because I kind of thought it was yours."

She didn't. She just liked pushing him around.

"Um. Not sure. I'm only asking because I have no pants," Marty said still staring at his closet. "And I'm pretty sure that I didn't have any shorts like these."

Angela stared in shock for a second.

Then she started to laugh.

"Well," she said, through her giggles, "Clearly New York's gotten weird and your closet thinks you should lighten up."

"Hey! I'm plenty light!" Marty protested. "I'm like the unbearable lightness of being."

Angela gave him a dubious look. "You're Czech and kind of porny?"

"Well maybe I'm just unbearable," Marty revised with a smirk. "Because I'm so light. Maybe not so much with the Czech and the porn."

"That's better," Angela told him. "So are you going to wear the shorts, or do you want to hang out half-dressed with me at home?"

Granted, lately hanging out with Angela tended to involve a lot of reading the baby names book. It was totally fun!

"How about combining the two and wearing shorts and hanging out?" Marty suggested. "Best of both worlds unless you prefer me half-dressed."

Angela laughed, less shocked then she pretended to be. "I'm not answering that," she said. "You're totally teasing me."

"I would like to hang out," she added.

Marty snickered as he pulled on the shorts. "Me? Tease you? Never."

He looked down at the shorts and shook his head. "I'm going to forgo the usual jacket and tie today. Like it matters since we're just hanging out."

He offered her his hand as he headed to the living room and couch. "Anything in particular you want to do today?"

"Not really," Angela admitted. "I need to set up the hospital tour, but that can wait until next week."

She brushed her hair back. "How are you feeling?" The question wasn't quite as casual as it sounded; she did, after all, remember last week.

Marty wasn't forgetting it anytime soon either.

He flopped down a bit on the couch and attempted to shrug. "Fine, I guess," he said, "Just trying to focus on the immediate future, y'know?"

"That's what we have to do," Angela said, trying to sounnd optimistic. "Well, that or giggle at your shorts."

"Giggle away. No one else is seeing these but you," Marty smirked. "And... How are you feeling?"

Yep. Not that casual a question either.

"My feet hurt," Angela pouted.

That wasn't a real answer.

Marty patted his lap and then gave a "gimme" gesture with his hands. "What about the rest of you?"

"The rest of me doesn't hurt," Angela said, arranging her feet in Marty's lap.

"You sure?" Marty said, starting to massage one of her feet. "Nothing to worry about?"

"Um," Angela said. It wasn't yes or no.

"So did you, like, call Marcella?"

"Yeah," he said quietly. "She's making arrangements for a transfer of money for a scholarship fund at FH. Maybe in memory of Kitty."

He was quiet for a moment before shrugging. "Have you contacted someone at student housing?"

"Good," Angela said firmly.

"Yeah," she added. "We can't move in until the new semester starts, but we can stay there as long as I take at least one class. Our rent will be $850 a month." She wiggled her toes at him. "Think we can cover that with my fabulous barista career?"

"Probably not," Marty said with a playful pinch of her toes. "But I can sublet the apartment and I'm looking for a job. Between all of that we should have enough and something left over."

"We'll make it work," Angela decided. "Maybe I could get a job where I can bring the baby." She was going a bit starry-eyed.

"Hey, do you know what we should give Xander and Bridge?"

Marty gave Angela a small but worried smile. "Maybe. Maybe the baby could change coffee filters."

He thought about the gift thing for a moment.

"A toaster. No! A green toaster. One that talks."

"It's guaranteed to be a genius, right?" Angela said, with a tiny smile. "And you get right on finding that, sweetie."

"Well it'll have your brains. And good looks," Marty said tickling the sole of her feet gently. "I'm just hoping it has my quick comic sense of timing."

"I'd like it to have your hair," she said, almost shyly, twisting her foot away with a giggle.

"My hair?" Marty said grabbing for the foot again. "My hair is boring. You want our child to have boring hair?"

"You have gorgeous dark, thick hair," Angela told him. "I'm the one with boring hair, under the dye."

"There is positively nothing that's boring about you," Marty said returning to the massaging portion of the feet. "And may be there's baby crimson glow someplace for the kids."

"We aren't going to dump chemicals on the kid's head!" Angela exclaimed.

"They don't make hair dye for infants?" Marty asked innocently.

"if they do I never want to find out," Angela said darkly.

"Fine," Marty said rolling his eyes with a good deal of humor. "My hair. But your feet."

"My feet, why my feet?" Angela asked. "I have, like, fat feet."

"Well they're a little swollen now," Marty said. "But otherwise they are quite pretty feet."
