Los Angeles: Phone call to Bel

Still worried thanks to his conversation with Veronica yesterday, Angel decided to try calling Bel.

He was down in the basement for privacy, and was using his Blackberry.

Whether or not Bel picked up was another question entirely.

Bel heard the phone ring and checked the caller ID. For a couple of rings he debating not answering, but finally he did. "Hey."

"Hey," Angel said. He sat down on his workout bench. "What's new?"

"Just calling to check in?" Bel asked, keeping his voice neutral.

"Something like that," Angel said. "Everything okay?"

I almost killed someone, I'm having a jealous fit because you brought Logan to LA, and people think Veronica and I are having an affair, sprang to mind, but instead, Bel said, "Yeah, sure, everything's fine. Your girlfriend's a little off her rocker, though." Subject changes were your friend.

All things considered, Angel felt it was reasonable for him to reply, "Please tell me you mean Cal."

"Who else would I be talking about?" Bel said. "Logan?" Ooops, that just slipped out.

"Okay, first off separate floors," Angel said. "Second he didn't want anybody knowing and third separate floors."

"I thought you had to be alone because everyone around you was going to die," Bel said accusingly.

"Which is still true!" Angel said. "There wasn't a plan, Bel. I went to my portal and he was there."

"He followed me home from the movies, can I keep him?" Bel said sarcastically.

"Hey!" Angel said, irritation creeping into his tone. "His dad was just murdered. I'm supposed to tell him nobody wants him around either?"

"Yeah, poor little rich boy," Bel grumbled. "And you his only friend."

"He's not rich here," Angel said. "He left his money behind."

"So, what, he's dependent on you now?" Bel asked.

"He's working for me," Angel said.

Still not helping with the jealousy.
"Well, hope that works out for you then," he said, trying to swallow the bitterness in his voice.

"And how are you doing, Bel?" Angel said, because he could force a subject change with the best of them.

"Told you, I'm fine," Bel lied.

"Uh-huh."

"What makes you think something's wrong?" Bel asked, suspicious now.

"Because we've met?"

Bel sighed. "It's nothing I can't handle."

"Humor me with a story anyway," Angel said. "I'm bored."

"Got into a fight the other night," Bel said. "Kid in our cabin had a nightmare and then jumped me. He knocked out some of the girls in the cabin and when I thought he was going to go for Phoebe I lost it. Started to go all demony on him."
