Angel calls Aeryn

Angel was avoiding his voicemail, really he was. As far as he could tell listening to his messages only brought vastly uncomfortable situations that he had to handle. Mainly by pretending he hadn't listened to his voicemail messages.

But his Blackberry kept blinking at him with this accusatory red light, so he finally caved and listened.

He debated with himself, decided that at least getting an update was the lesser of two evils, and called Aeryn back.

Aeryn's still en route when she picks up the phone. "Hello?"

"Hey, Aeryn. It's Angel." He tried to project a casual and laissez-faire attitude about things. He failed miserably.

"Good to hear from you," she says, with a happy thought of points for the effort!. "She wants you hogtied on her doorstep. I don't know what that is, but it keeps coming up in conversation."

There may have been a rhythmic thudding noise from Angel's end of the phone. "Uh-huh. Say, has she seemed really homicidal lately? Moreso than usual?"

Aeryn stops at her own room so she doesn't have to talk in the hall, closing the door behind her. "This week is better than last week," she admits.

Long pause.

"In that she's more, or less homicidal?"

"Less. To my knowledge, at least."

Angel stupidly allowed himself to feel relief. "Oh. Okay. Good. So... me not calling has been a good thing?"

This time the pause is on Aeryn's end. "She wants me to kidnap you and deliver you hogtied on her doorstep," she reminds him.

"...she could be kidding?"

"No."

There was more thudding.

"You haven't called her?" she asks him.

Angel mumbled soomething that sounded like "Men vending my loan 'cause moping."

Aeryn's shaking her head. A lot. "I have no idea what you just said. Call her."

"I've been pretending my phone was broken," Angel said. "And no. Oh no. Calling would involve talking and saying I heard her message and that - that's just going to involve stabbing. If I'm lucky with wood."

"Let me put it this way. If she manages to get me into a cheerleading outfit, then you're going to have to deal with her and me," she points out.

Angel seriously weighed his options.

"You might be more merciful. With the killing."

"Shall I repeat the part about the cheerleading outfit?"

"Yes, but - but!" Angel said, warming to the kind of logic only a desparate male could claim, "If you killed me you couldn't bring me to Callisto and that way she'd have to let you out of the cheerleading since she gave you a task that was impossible. Win/win."

She actually pulls the phone away from her ear to stare at it for a second. When its back in its intended position, she says, "You and I both know Callisto wouldn't see it that way, because it makes no sense. Also because it's Callisto."

"I thought it made a little sense," Angel said, and Aeryn could probably see him pouting like a sulky three year old.

After dealing with John and Rory yesterday, that's exactly what Aeryn sees. "No," she says. "Call her. E-mail. Something. You don't think she deserves that much?"

Maybe a little low. Again, cheerleading outfit.

"What am I supposed to say?" Angel said. "This whole thing involves a lot of talking and I think we can all agree that I really suck at that."
