Angel had meant to do this yesterday. Unfortunately the local demon population didn't care about Angel's needs. Much though, frankly, Angel felt they should.

So when he finally had time enough and the demons had been taken care of, he placed a call to Fandom.

Rory'd had an eventful (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/1054672.html?thread=45340624#t45340624) evening already. Which was why she was curled up in her desk chair, pretending to focus on reading, when the phone rang.

"Hello?" she answered without checking the caller ID.

"Are we at the stage yet where we're talking about how all guys are scum?" Angel asked, by way of hello. "Because I'm really good with that speech. Especially if their names begin with A."

Rory smiled. "You sound eerily like Cal when you say that. Hi. I'm not mad at him, so no, not all guys are scum."

"Crap. I knew I should've made notes." Angel made himself comfortable in the armchair he was sitting in. "Okay, what stage are we in? This isn't the denial, barganing, acceptance stuff, right? I'm pretty sure that's death. 'course, vampire. Most things are to me."

"We're in the stage where I don't talk about it. What's new with you?" Rory asked, way too cheerfully.

"You can't start the conversation with that?" Angel asked. "I'm really good at not talking about stuff. I'm the best at not talking about stuff. Actually, now I'm a little hurt you didn't call me in sooner. You've got another brother who's doing the stoic thing for you right now, right? Admit it, you can tell me."

"Well, I have Bucky, but he's better at being loud and very small than being stoic and all loomy, really," she admitted.

Angel was about to mention how much the pictures were cute, but then he remembered who'd brought the latest set so he kept his mouth shut on that topic.

"Well it takes practice," he said instead. "Actually I don't like telling people this but the first ten, twenty years? I didn't have the hang of it. Tried to brood, ended up mopey. One year I was depressed. You can't hit the brooding ground running. Just not possible."

"Did you write emo poetry?" Rory wondered.

"Nah, that was Spike's thing," Angel said, because even when he was being deliberately silly for Rory he wasn't going to pretend to have been a poet. "I was always more into drawings. Sure, they say all those pictures of nothing but black squares all looked the same, but I really felt they had meaning."

"Well, every different angle of shading has a different meaning," Rory agreed seriously.

"See, that was my point," Angel said. "'course Pollack's gotta be all 'Nooo, do paint splatters, wave of the future.' Like he knew what he was talking about."

"He was drunk most of the time anyway," Rory said derisively.

"Pfft, yeah, like that's even original," Angel said, as though that just proved his point.

"Artists have been drunk for centuries," Rory agreed. "'Cause booze is sometimes cheap."

"All I'm saying is that there's those of us who set the trends, and everybody else who follows," Angel said. "Not that I'm trying to brag or anything."

"So if I meet someone else who's just as broody, should I assume they've met you and are just a copycat?" she inquired.

"Well obviously," Angel replied. "Just like all those guys who think they can wear nothing but black and be all dark and loomy. Frankly? They should leave that to the pros."

"I met a guy like that today!" Rory said. "A bad guy! He's one of the bad guys from where Anakin's from and he's teaching Ethics!"

Angel blinked. "What? Ironically?"

"Apparently it's one of those things where we're getting different perspectives or something," Rory said, shrugging. "I don't know. He knew my name without me telling him, and he had a mask and a cape and it was all in black. And? His voice was all creepy and deep. Like that guy on the cell phone commercials?"

"The one who keeps asking if you can hear him now?"

"No, no, the other one," Rory said. "Or like a movie announcer, or something. Unnaturally deep and booming and stuff."

"Oh that one," Angel said. Adding, softer, "Am I the only one who thinks the other guy is creepy?"

"No, no, he totally is," Rory agreed just as quietly. More loudly, she added, "So I'm totally going to try to get into the class because no one here who knows how bad the Sith are. I think. I mean, students-wise. Principal Washburn is kind of a badass and I don't think she'd hire someone without checking them out."
