Los Angeles: Phone call to Veronica

A little worried by the contents of Veronica's email, Angel decided to call her to see what exactly was up.

He tried her cell.

Veronica had just arrived back on campus after a *handwavy* trip to the store when her phone rang. She smiled when she saw the caller ID display.

"Veronica's House of Ill Repute. How may we service you this evening?"

"Okay, did Cal tell everybody about the chastity thing or is this something I don't even want to know about?" Angel asked in reply.

"Chastity thing?" Veronica repeated. "I was giving you a hard time because of the Furies. Which, thanks by the way. I had a *handwavy* phone call from that asshole that runs the clinic and they showed up the day after we talked."

ZOMG Tommymodder! "Oh," Angel said. "I knew that. So everything worked out?"

ZOMG I forgot to ask you! "Apparently. So to what do I owe the pleasure of hearing your voice on the other end of my phone?"

"Not because I was going to talk about the Furies," Angel said. "Got your email. What's up with Bel?"

Veronica looked around and found a quiet patch of grass under a tree with no one around and sat down.

"Something happened the other night and I don't think he's dealing with it well," she began.

Well that grabbed Angel's attention. "What?"

"Well, you know how I said we spent the last two weeks living in cabins? One of the people in Bel's cabin was John Connor. The other night he was apparently having a nightmare and woke up screaming. Bel went to see what was going on and John attacked him."

She paused to take a breath.

"Is he okay?" Angel asked.

"He didn't get hurt," Veronica replied, not exactly answering the question. "Apparently John went after some of the girls in the cabin, Maia and Lana both ended up in the clinic. Phoebe ended up knocking John out."

"Good for her," Angel said. "How are the girls now?"

"I think they're both out of the clinic, apparently their injuries were minor. Bel and Phoebe both got detention for fighting though."

"Which in a nutshell explains why I'm happy I graduated," Angel said. He made himself comfortable at his desk. "I can beat up anybody I like and not get detention for it. Well there was this one incident with a demon and - never mind. Not important now. So then what?"

Veronica sighed and stretched out on her stomach, enjoying the absolutely gorgeous weather.

"Friday night there was a big luau. I saw Bel slip off into the woods and I followed him. Caught him punching a tree and made him talk. He told me about the fight and told me that he ended up shifting to demon form during it."

"And that freaked him out," Angel guessed. "That the first time he's gone demony since he's been good?"

"I don't know if it's the first time," Veronica said. "I didn't ask. But, yeah, it freaked him out. He said if Phoebe hadn't knocked John out when she did, he might have killed him."

"I should talk to him," Angel said. "Where is he?"

"We moved back to the dorms, so I guess he's around somewhere. I'm not sure what all workshops he's in. I know he has mine on Wednesday mornings and Anakin's on Friday mornings. I think he has one or two more though."

She hesitated. "Angel, I told him to call you..."

Based on her tone of voice, Angel figured there was some sort of catch coming. "Yeah?"

"He's not very happy about the fact that Logan's with you."

Now Angel rolled his eyes. "Oh for f - "

Amazingly, he swallowed that syllable.

"You know, I get why Cal thought it was a big deal, but double-u-tee-eff? Should I post a notice in the school paper?"

Veronica wasn't about to enlighten Angel.

"He thinks you lied about having to go alone."

You know the nice thing about having your own desk is that you could whap your head against it as often as you felt like.

"I assume you told him otherwise?"

"I tried," Veronica said. "But I don't think he believed me."
